Stopped by out of curiosity because I got a whiff of that distinct Chinese bakery smell as I walked by. Got 12 egg tarts and they came out piping hot and fresh. The egg custard was jiggly and super smooth, and the pastry was flaky but not to the point where flakes broke off at the slightest touch. While I'm used to a slightly more solid egg filling and pastry, these egg tarts were still delicious. I will return to try their pineapple buns (my beloved).

Wanted to preface that I have not tried the food, though it did look like they had a pretty good selection. I came to use the restroom because no other restaurant in the complex had a public restroom/for customers only, but the owner at New Hwong Kok kindly let me use theirs. I think that counts for a five star review! The shop has a nice hole-in-the-wall look, and I will definitely be trying their food next time I'm in the area.

Every time I go to my Dentest in Milpitas, I stop by my favorite dim sum place. So happy to get some dim sum in Milpitas. They are so good. I love shumai and hawcow there. I wish we have place like this in Texas.:( Their lunch special is the best deal. You get a porridge and so many kinds of dumplings for $10. It's still cheap for the amount of dim sum you get. The owner is very hard worker. I see her every time I go there for last 13 years. They open from morning until evening. No days off. Amazing for a small business like this. Thank you always for serving such a great dim sums.

Oh the childhood memories! My dad used to get dim sum from here all the time when I was younger. The prices are very reasonable and it's authentic dim sum that is really hard to find outside of SF. We recently catered from here for my baby shower and everyone loved the food. We ordered chow mein, chow fun, shrimp dumplings, chive balls, char-sui baos, egg rolls, crab rangoons, and a few other finger foods. Let's just say that we didn't have any leftovers and I ordered enough food to feed 30 people...We had 20 people at our shower haha. All of the food was under $500, which was such a bargain. I ordered everything 3 days in advance and paid in full that day to ensure everything would be good to go for the shower. English is limited there, so I brought my dad to help translate. When we have another big event where I need to order dim sum, I'll definitely be back here.

4 stars based off of New Hwong Kok's Steamed BBQ pork bao. I am typically not a fan of BBQ pork buns and am especially not a fan of fast food to-go dim sum joints. I have not been able to come across a single establishment that meet my requirements when it comes to quality. Food items may be extremely large in size [[visually described as your average dumpling but on STERIOIDS!!]] but the texture is super wet/mushy, with flavoring compromised. With my 3yo not having a good dinner, I went on a hunt to grab something small and carb-y. According to Yelp's listed business hours, NHK was opened pretty late and I headed directly over. I was met by an older Chinese woman who informed to me that business hours were over. I apologized and told her I came here based off of the hours listed on Yelp. Thankfully, she was willing to sell me some BBQ pork buns and Chinese steamed cake as well. Buns were good. I wasn't expecting much and automatically assumed the filling was going to be super stingy but was very very doable. Flavoring was spot on, providing that typical meaty sweetness that you'd expect from char siu. Steamed cake was the letdown due to the inconsistent layers in the pasty. Some parts were dry and crusty/hard. I worked around the piece as best as I could before giving up completely and dumping it. Overall: Thank you to the elderly woman who decided to allow for my purchase even after closing time. I'd come back for the BBQ buns and am interested in checking out other savory fillings they have.
